How to Observe National Recycling Day this Year

In 1997, the National Recycling Coalition officially named November 15th as “National Recycling Day”. This holiday celebrates and promotes recycling in the United States and encourages everyone to spread the word about the benefits of recycling, leading by example. In today’s economy, being aware about how to recycle and sharing that knowledge with others is more important than ever. Read on to learn more about the benefits of recycling,  IntegriCo’s role in diverting plastics away from landfills and what you can do to observe National Recycling Day this year.

The Benefits of Recycling

Recycling not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, it also increases economic security, prevents pollution, saves energy and conserves natural resources. Rather than extracting raw materials from the earth, recycling provides us with the opportunity to reprocess used materials into new products.  Recycling is one way we can decrease our carbon footprints, help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and give back to our planet.

IntegriCo Composites

Recycling is at the core of IntegriCo’s daily operations, making it possible for the company to create composite rail road ties and construction matting from 100% recycled plastic. IntegriCo operates a circular economy by offering a solution to reuse plastic and have less waste in the United States.

“IntegriCo’s focus has always been on transforming landfill-bound plastic into strong composite products,” said Brian Gaughan, IntegriCo’s Director of Business Development. “Currently, our company is using approximately 2,000, 000 pounds of recycled plastic per month from post-consumer and post-industrial sources.”  IntegriCo’s specialized low-heat process preserves the properties of plastic that make it such a good raw material for railroad ties and construction matting without harming the environment.

What You Can Do

Recycling happens in three steps: collection and processing, manufacturing and purchasing new products made from recycled materials.  The simplest way you can observe National Recycling Day this year is by being aware of what you recycle and the products you purchase moving forward. There are various ways recyclables are collected, including curbside collection, drop-off centers, and deposit or refund programs. The Environmental Protection Agency provides detailed descriptions on how to recycle correctly here.

Today, more and more products are being manufactured with recycled materials, making it easier than ever before to shop for products that contain recycled content. This National Recycling Day, you can help close the recycling loop by recycling correctly, supporting companies that create recycled products and sharing what you know with others.
