IntegriCo Joins EPA’s WasteWise
As of January 2020, IntegriCo Composites has joined as a new endorser of the Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise program. WasteWise encourages businesses and organizations to achieve sustainability in their practices and reduce waste. In the past 25 years of the program’s existence, participants have prevented and diverted 247 million tons of materials from going to landfills or incinerators.
IntegriCo Composites is one company participating in the circular economy by gathering recycled plastics that would otherwise go to a landfill and turning these plastics into composite products. IntegriCo’s process prevents many plastics from becoming waste and turns it into a new, 100% recyclable product instead. WasteWise is part of EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management program, focusing on reusing materials more effectively over their entire life cycle.
As an endorser of the WasteWise program and its mission to reduce waste, IntegriCo is sharing the history of the program and the many benefits it provides to its participants and our society as a whole.
What WasteWise Represents
Since its inception in 1994, WasteWise has emphasized the importance of waste prevention and its significant benefits to the environment. Waste prevention means reducing the overall amount of waste and using less material to complete the job at hand. EPA’s WasteWise also highlights the importance of businesses and organizations setting goals for waste diversion and tracking progress to measure results. The program invites all U.S. businesses, governments and nonprofit organizations to join WasteWise as a partner, endorser or both.
Benefits of WasteWise
Participants of WasteWise help benefit the environment through their tasks in the program whether it’s practicing environmental stewardship, incorporating sustainable materials management into their waste-handling process or promoting enrollment in WasteWise and helping others to see how much preventing waste can positively affect our surroundings.
Not only do these participants help benefit the environment, they have the opportunity to receive WasteWise awards for outstanding achievement, public recognition in WasteWise publications, reduced purchasing and waste disposal costs and access to free educational materials and one-on-one technical assistance via the WasteWise helpline.
IntegriCo’s mission to improve and expand the world’s infrastructure while diverting plastic away from landfills directly aligns with WasteWise’s vision for the future. EPA’s program hopes to inspire organizations to set sustainability goals and track progress in preventing and recycling waste and saving resources and money.
